Jim Ainslie
Jim, a retired teacher, has been experiencing the joys of photography since his early teen years.
Although slightly saddened at having to give up favorite darkroom techniques such as solarization, Kodalith line separation imaging, color toning and hand coloring; the lure and wonder of working with Photoshop, with its limitless possibilities, have finally won him over to the light side. He is really enjoying finding ways to convert previously used darkroom skills to digital image printing.
Jim makes images with a Sony R1 digital camera and has been an IACC member since, well, for a long time.
Art Cegielski
No bio was available at the time this site went into production, so we'll update Art's info as soon as we can sit him down for a coffee. He's a busy veterinarian, as well as a successful photographer. Art shoots mainly monochrome images, although he has been known to fool around with colour in Photoshop.
Emille Currie
Emille has been making images with a Minolta X-700 which she says she'll never part with, but does find cumbersome. She's also recently acquired a Nikon D80, "carefully tiptoeing into the era of digital SLRs", and is taking courses at Metro College to improve her overall photographic technique. All of the images in her gallery were made with her Canon Powershot S3 IS.
Emille has been an IACC member since 2006-2007.
Rae Emogene
Emogene was a teenager when she purchased her first camera, a Braun Paxette. After travelling around North America taking thousands of photos of race cars, she tucked away her camera gear and began building stained glass windows. Her interest in photography never waned and a few years later, she was encouraged by a friend to attend a meeting at IACC. After the meeting, Emogene went straight home and unpacked her gear.
In 2003, she became a member of IACC, was named New Member of the Year that first year, has served as Vice-President, and is currently our Newsletter Editor and Competitions Co-Chairperson.
Zbigniew W. Gortel
Zbyszek (zzzbeesheck) is a university physicist in real life and a photographer in his imaginary world. His first camera was an Altissa "easy focus" box and he made his first contact prints when he was ten. He has almost four decades of slides, now nicely stored in boxes. Presently a Canon 10D, Photoshop and an Epson printer are his tools. "A photograph for me is not a photograph until it is printed."
Urban photography is his favorite subject as are landscapes, nature, and people. He joined IACC in 2004 and CAPA a year later. In 2007 Zbyszek was awarded a Personal Achievement Award. "This is the best thing which I have done in years" he says.
Gerry Harris
Gerry got his first camera at age 9, a Vest-pocket Kodak. He learned about processing B&W film in high school in Britain, circa WW2. He emmigrated to the USA in '49 and in the early 60s became a member of the PSA. He eventually became the area rep, responsible for around a dozen photo clubs in the New Jersey area.
He shot mainly slide film using rangefinder cameras, Lieca being his preferred brand. Gerry isn't troubled by the digital revolution, and if asked will tell you all about the creative ways he manipulated images with techniques such as Kodalith Derivations, slide sandwiching, darkroom hijinx and so forth.
Gerry joined our club in 1981, back when we held our meetings at the old King Edward School. He has served our club as President and Workshops Chair.
Sheila Holzer
Sheila shoots film and still processes her images in a wet darkroom—a dying art. She has a basement full of handcrafted black and whites because "I don't see in colour" including some wonderful hand-tinted prints. Much of her work depicts elements of human habitat and endeavor.
Sheila has been an IACC member since 1990-1991 and serves as our Membership Chair. (Psst. Don’t tell anyone, but Sheila has a digital SLR and a modicum of Photoshop skills).
Sieg Koslowski
Sieg finds photography therapeutic: "It rekindles our sense of wonder and refreshes the soul." He enjoys cycling the river valley trails with his two favourite possessions: a Wolverine mountain bike and a Nikon D70 camera. "It's a privilege to have unlimited access to the marvellous galleries of God's creation."
Through the web Sieg sends out a picture of the day to family and friends around the world. He's been a member since the golden era of the Mufty Administration.
Derald Lobay
Derald has been making images for over 20 years, using Nikon 35mm equipment exclusively. He enjoys the craft of working with film, and acquired a Hasselblad in 2002. "I still like to shoot film and can't wait to pick up those rolls I just exposed and lay them across my light table!"
Of his shooting style, Derald says he records edges—edges of light, edges of ecosystems, and edges of seasons. He prefers to work in the fall when mammals look their best and people are less of a distraction.
Derald has been an IACC member since 1993-1994 and serves our club as Competitions Chair. In 2007 he took home a President's Challenge award.
Mufty Mathewson
Mufty loves to shoot everything under the sun and sometimes under the moon as well. She is on a learning curve with her new digital Pentax istD, including learning new ways to make slide shows with music—now without slides!
Mufty joined us way back in 1978 thinking she was "not really a 'camera club' type". She's been editor of Imagery, Club President, and served on the board in some capacity for many years. Currently Mufty is our Club Historian.
In 2007, Mufty became our club's second Honorary Lifetime Member in thanks for her constant leadership.
Colette Panaioti
Colette primarily shoots landscapes, wildlife and macro. She also likes to create composite images either through multiple exposures on film or by combining images in Photoshop. Her primary camera is a Canon 10D (DSLR) with a Canon Elan II (film SLR) as backup. She uses a Canon G3 (digital P & S) when she doesn't want to involve weight lifting as part of her photo shoot.
Colette joined IACC in 2005-2006 and was named New Member of the Year that year. She has served our club as Outings Chairperson.
Ray Rasmussen
Ray is a photographer and writer from Edmonton, Alberta. In a previous life he was a university professor.
He does most of his shooting in Alberta's Willmore Wilderness Park and in Utah's canyon country, using a Nikon D200. A Mac G5 with Photoshop is his digital darkroom. He tinkers with digital compositions that "begin life as a photograph and end up who knows where". His haiga images [photo art + haiku] have been published in some of the better haiku journals.
Ray has been a member of IACC since 2002-2003.
Carol Rusinek
Carol is a born and raised Peace River gal who left the farm for secondary education. Her career as a lab tech supports her photography. For years she made transparencies with a Canon EOS A2, and now makes images with a Canon 10D DSLR. She has taken picture framing courses and enjoys adding the finishing touch to a great work of art.
Carol has been a member of IACC since 1993-1994, has served as President, and currently is the Outings Chair and CAPA rep for our club.
Ted Smandych
Ted is a Manufacturing Accounting Manager in his other life and has been taking pictures of wildlife and family (Why isn't he in any family pics???) for over thirty years with his Canon F1 system. He has recently become more involved since upgrading to a Canon EOS20D digital system. He spends hours outdoors taking close-ups of wild flowers and most recently wild birds—he is an avid birder as well. He enjoys exploring out of the way, less traveled outdoor spaces.
Ted joined IACC in 2006 and marvels at the knowledge, talent and diversity of our members.
Miriam Stanisavljevic
Miriam was motivated to buy her first SLR, her Pentax Super Program, just before visiting the Olympics in 1984. She also has a Pentax ist (film body) which she's learning to master. She shoots landscapes, macro, and night photographs—"anything but people". Miriam loves to travel, and says the best travel companion is one who frequently says "stop the car".
Miriam joined us in 1998-1999 and has won Outings, Nortel Nature and Small Format competitions, as well as a Personal Achievement and President's Challenge award. She's been our Outings and Program Chair, as well as VP and President.
Raymond A. van der Woning
Ray is often mistaken for a birder, and emphatically reminds anyone within earshot that he's a photographer first and a bird watcher second. Still, the birds show up regularly in his photography. He's also the only person he knows who gripes about beautiful sunny days being really lousy light. Photographers are (Ray is) never truly content.
He captures images with a Canon 10D DSLR and loves the digital workflow.
Ray has been an IACC member since 2005-2006, has been the club's VP and President, and serves the club as Webmaster.
Gerry Wirun
Gerry made his first portrait at age 7, got his first camera at 13, completed art/design studies at the U of M, and made a career in photo sales consulting. Gerry finds inspiration in nature but he'll shoot anything—he says every subject is a unique challenge. He's shot with Nikon gear since 1969, and currently uses a D80 DSLR.
Gerry has been an IACC member since 2004-2005, serves as Workshops Chair and thoroughly enjoys the people and programs at the club.
