Zbigniew W. Gortel, a professor of physics at the UofA, has been making photographs for 40 years. An avid competitor, Zbyszek submits works not only in IACC competitions but also into international competitions and participats in the CAPA circuit.

International Competition

In 2006 he won 2nd prize in My Backyard, a competition in Poland held by the newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza with his image titled Walls Remember. There were 811 entrants.

CAPA Curcuit

He finished in 3rd place overall in the CAPA 3-round print competition of 2006/07. He submitted 12 prints which were good enough to earn him 2nd place in all three rounds, keeping him in third overall after final scoring.

Towards the end of 2007, he was awarded a Third Place in the CAPA 2007 Annual Digital Competition, with a score of 26 points out of a maximum of 30 for his image Feeling Safe.

In 2007 OPAW chose two images, Late Summer Grass and Summer Leaves in their printed brochure used to promote their annual workshop. The images were shot at the 2006 OPAW workshop.

Exhibition

His work was chosen for exhibit pdf in Edmonton's TU Gallery in late summer of 2007. The exhibit's opening was well attended and he sold a number of fine art prints.

In 2008, Zbyszek's work will be featured in an upcoming gallery exhibit in Warsaw. (Brochure pdf | Poster pdf)
